Wonderful memories of Hokkaido Japan still hold true in my mind. I realize that one year may not seem like much time, but it was a year that had filled my mind with joy and peace and I like to recall those memories often. Even though more than 20 years have come and gone, and time has done its best to try to diminish the memories and cool the love that I once shared with a girl there, time has no jurisdiction on these memories. Those 20 years could not steal or scrape off one sliver of the love I felt for that Japanese girl named Akemi Kyuko, her wonderful country, and the friends that I remember so well and wonder about today.

What a trip......a wild hair and Google lead me to your blog.....I spent a year in Hokkaido immediately following boot camp...'84-'85. I'm the guy in the group photo that's not looking at the camera.

I remember you Bill. Nice to hear from you. I remember much about my time there and I have flashes of memories of you too. You were a good guy.
So far this blog has attached 3 or 4 other old base workers. Drop me an email sometime so I can put your address in my files. Who knows, if we get enough people together maybe we could have a reunion (if perhaps only by cyber means). Take care!

I was there from July 1981- July 1986. Our dogs at the time were Florence and Burnout. You guys may remember the framed certificate on the wall in the TV room with the acknowledgement of the ordainment of “The Reverend B. Out” yep, the dog was a Reverend! Did Guy and Amy still own “The Liberty” bar in Obihiro when you were there? I remember them well. I will always be greatful to Amy for setting me up with two of her girl friends while I was there, Kyoko and Setsuko.

That is awesome that you found this site and I'm glad you made a comment. I still to this day have comments linked to my email so I read and appreciate them all. I'm sorry to say I do not remember the framed certificate nor do I remember Guy and Amy at the Liberty Bar. I do remember going to a bar named the Liberty in Obihiro though. If you are a Facebooker please join the LORAN site, https://www.facebook.com/groups/USCGLoran

I've reconnected with a lot of people that I once knew there.
